Mike Cleary is a seasoned business executive and leader with over 30 years’ experience – in energy, information technology, manufacturing, supply-chain logistics, commodities trading and risk management – in over 12 countries, spanning four continents.
Mike served as Chief Operating Officer of AEMO – the electricity and gas System and Market Operator for much of Australia – from 2012-2017. In this capacity he was responsible for operating the real-time electricity and gas grids, system planning and forecasting, and maintenance of IT systems. Prior to this role, Mike served as Chief Operation Officer (2010-2012) and Chief Technology Officer (2009-2012) of ERCOT, the electricity system and market operator for Texas, USA, where he led the turnaround of a strategic $650m project, and delivering a 5-year business strategy. Mike has also previously served as Executive Director, IT, for PJM Interconnection in the USA, where he led a significant restructuring of the division.
Mike also has extensive consulting experience, having served as a Senior Manager at both Deloitte, and Accenture, with work spanning business planning, organisation design, process transformation, systems design and implementation, and market readiness.
Mike is a fellowship member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants. In 2009, he was commissioned as an Admiral of the Texas Navy by Governor Rick Perry in recognition of his service to the people of Texas.
