Performance of wholesale electricity markets with high wind penetration

Thermal generators in power systems with a growing wind capacity may need to operate more flexibly. Here, a stochastic unit commitment model tests revenue sufficiency of thermal generators under increasing wind capacity to examine whether they may require uplift payments in addition to revenue from marginal cost pricing.
